California Assembly Bill 172 -- Universal Preschool

Updated: June 25, 2006

The funding source for this bill was supposed to be provided by Proposition 82 - Rob Reiner's Preschool-For-All Initiative. Since Prop 82 was soundly rejected and defeated by California voters in the June 2006 election, the language of the bill was changed on June 22, 2006. Now, "the bill will become operative if funding is provided in the annual Budget Act or other statute." Please contact your legislators and let them know you are opposed to AB 172 - Universal Preschool. Here is a sample letter you may use. Or call your legislator on the phone.

Legislative Action Alert

Dear Friends of UP,

AB 172 has been set for a hearing in the Assembly Education Committee on April 20, 2005. [View Details]

Your mission should you decide to accept it; is to call, write and/or fax the legislators listed below in opposition to AB 172. Be sure to write your own Assembly member as well.

We've provided a sample letter on the Universal Preschool website, while you may use it, we prefer you use it as a starting point and create your own personal version. Personal letters and experiences have the potential to create more impact, than form letters, in general.

However, sending a form letter, is better than sending no letter at all. :)

The sample letter is also available in a ready to use Word Doc.

After you have contacted your legislator and the Education Committee members, please forward this alert to any family members or friends, who may have an interest in preschool legislation. [Find your California Legislator]

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to accept this assignment and make a difference for all of California's little people.
